The Story
Based on the children's novel of the same name written by Walt Morey in 1965, Gentle Ben follows the adventures in the Florida Everglades of a game warden Tom Wedloe (Dennis Weaver), his wife Ellen (Beth Brickell), their son Mark (Clint Howard), and Mark's tame bear Ben.
Gentle Ben was produced by Ivan Tors, who also produced the Gentle Giant pilot film. Tors was an established producer of successful TV series, including Sea Hunt, Flipper and Daktari. The series was filmed on location on Virginia Key, Florida and at the Ivan Tors Studios in Miami, FL.
This set contains all 56 episodes along with a bonus disc containing the pilot film Gentle Giant.
Notable guest stars included Burt Reynolds, Jay Silverheels, Strother Martin, Slim Pickens, Victor French and Ron Howard.
NOTE: Clint Howard is the younger sibling of actor/director Ron Howard. Clint and Ron’s father, actor/writer Rance Howard, not only played the Wedloe’s friend, Henry Boomhauer, but he also wrote many of the episodes.
