David Hartman starred as Lucas Tanner, a former sportswriter and former professional baseball player who, after the deaths of his wife and son, decided to become a schoolteacher.

Tanner teaches English at Harry S Truman Memorial High School, located in Webster Groves, Missouri. In this pilot film for the short-lived series: After a student's death, rumors spread that it was caused by the negligence of one particular teacher - Lucas.

Also starring: Rosemary Murphy, Kathleen Quinlan, Ramon Bieri, Joe Garagiola, Nancy Malone, Robbie Rist, Stanley Livingston.
